  • Glorifying God

    Glorifying God

God wants us to glorify Him.
God created us for Hisown Glory. Talking about mankind in the book of Isaiah, God says about us, "whom I created for my glory" - Isaiah 43:7

Rom 15: 5       Now the God of patience andconsolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to ChristJesus:6          That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Fatherof our Lord Jesus Christ.

He does not want us to glorify Him every now andagain, He wants us to glorify Him in ALL that we do.

In 1 Corinthians 10:31we read, "So whether you eat or drink orwhatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

He does not NEED our glory – He desires it.  He enjoys it and there is something builtinto the process of our glorifying Him that lifts us up into Him and weexperience the JOY that results from being in His presence.   He inhabits our praises .  The fact is too that glory is DUE His name –we owe it to Him!  This is our rightfulresponse to Him, to glorify Him, worship Him, praise Him!

David said: 1 Chronicles 16 24 Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellousworks among all nations. 25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: he also is to befeared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the people are idols: butthe Lord made the heavens. 27 Gloryand honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in hisplace. 28 Giveunto the Lord, ye kindreds of thepeople, give unto the Lord gloryand strength. 29 Giveunto the Lord the glory dueunto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. 30 Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shallbe stable, that it be not moved. 31 Let the heavens be glad, andlet the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The Lord reigneth.

Heshows up in our midst when we glorify Him with praise:

Ps22: 3 But thou art holy, O thou thatinhabitest the praises of Israel.

    Hispresence brings pleasure.

Ps 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence isfullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Godfinds pleasure in US too even though He, as Creator , deserves all glory, honor, and power.  :Rev 4:8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him;and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanksto him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, 10 Thefour and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worshiphim that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thouart worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hastcreated all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

    We sing:

In the presence of theLord, there’s fullness of joy

At thy right hand ,there are pleasures forever more,

Oh what fellowshipdivine, I am His and He is mine,

In the presence of theLord, there’s fullness of joy.

When we do what we aremeant to do, i.e., when we give Him the glory, honor , and power due His name, wehave JOY!!

David said he would glorify the nameof the Lord forever:

"I will praise you, O Lord myGod,with all my heart;I will glorify your name forever." - Psalm 86:12

What does it mean to glorify God? How do we glorify God? Here aresome ways:

We glorify God through our desire to obey Him (our obedience).

We glorify Him when we praise and worship Him.

    We glorify Him through obedience.

We glorify Him through truly wanting to get to know Him and HisWord  and then to share it all  with others. .

13        Submit yourselves to every ordinance ofman for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;14            Or unto governors, as unto them thatare sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of themthat do well.15  For so is the will ofGod, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:16            As free, and not using your libertyfor a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.17            Honour all men. Matt 5: 16  Letyour light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorifyyour Father which is in heaven.

Your ministry work empowered by theSpirit of Christ  in you  glorifies Him  just as God was glorified when Jesus didmiracles :

Jesus works caused men to give gloryto God:

Luke18:38       And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.39         Andthey which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he criedso much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.40         And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him:and when he was come near, he asked him,41   Saying,What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receivemy sight.42            And Jesus said untohim, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.43     And immediately he receivedhis sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they sawit, gave praise unto God.

The work of the apostles caused mento glorify God:

Acts21: 17      And when we were come toJerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.18            Andthe day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders werepresent.

19        And when he had saluted them, hedeclared particularly what things Godhad wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

When we suffer with a right attitude weglorify God:

1 Pet4: 12       Beloved, think it not strangeconcerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thinghappened  unto you:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as yeare partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed,ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.14        Ifye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of gloryand of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on yourpart he is glorified.15  But let noneof you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybodyin other men's matters.16           Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, lethim not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

Those in Heaven glorify God.  We pray that God’s will be done on earth asit is in Heaven. So the fact this is going on in Heaven is one more witnessthat glorifying God should be going on in the earth.

Rev 15:.3         Andthey sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and trueare thy ways, thou King of saints.4            Whoshall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: forall nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are mademanifest.

When we PRAISE God as these saints inHeaven are doing, we are giving Him GLORY:

Ps 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him thatordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation ofGod.

    We will forever glorifythe Lord!

Rev 7:9 After these things I looked, and behold, a greatmultitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, andtongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with whiterobes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loudvoice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on thethrone, and to the Lamb!" 11 All the angels stood aroundthe throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on theirfaces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:"Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power andmight, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen."
