  • Communion notes for 4 28 12

The Bible says that whenever we takecommunion  we are “proclaiming the Lord’s death—until He returns”.

We die with Him; we live IN HIM – we crucify the flesh; we walk in theSpirit

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ:nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which Inow live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, andgave himself for me.
1 Cor 11:23For it wasfrom the Lord that I received the facts which, in turn, I handed on to you; howthat the Lord Jesus, on the night He was to be betrayed, took some bread, 24and after giving thanks He broke it and said, “This ismy body which is about to be broken for you. Do this in memory of me.”
25In the same way, when the meal was over, Healso took the cup. “This cup,” He said, “is the new Covenant of which my bloodis the pledge. Do this, every time that you drink it, in memory of me.”
26Forevery time that you eat this bread and drink from the cup, you are proclaimingthe Lord’s death—until He returns.

Paul states that his main focus in sharing the Word is to proclaimJesus Christ and Him crucified:

Cor 2: 1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you thetestimony of God.2 For I determinednot to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified

We have been baptized into His death AND received a new life too:

Romans 6 1To what conclusion, then, shall we come? Are we topersist in sinning in order that the grace extended to us may be the greater? 2No, indeed; how shall we who have died to sin, live init any longer? 3Anddo you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus werebaptized into His death? 4Well, then, we by ourbaptism were buried with Him in death, in order that, just as Christ was raisedfrom among the dead by the Father’s glorious power, we also should live anentirely new life.

We have crucified the works of the flesh we manifest the fruit ofthe Spirit of Christ in us?

Gal 5:19 Now the worksof the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness,lasciviousness,20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which Itell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do suchthings shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with theaffections and lusts.25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Gal 6: 14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our LordJesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

Our flesh wants attention and pampering; but, those who life acrucified life want to please God, not their own flesh.  We no longer have the same values as theworld does when we are in Christ.   Jesus knew His cross was coming; Peter did notwant Jesus to have to go through that. Jesus rebuked him saying,  for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the thingsthat be of men”. Jesus told Peter “Get thee behind me , satan” !

Mark 8: 31 And he beganto teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected ofthe elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and afterthree days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebukehim.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be ofGod, but the things that be of men.
34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he saidunto them,
Whosoever will come after me, let him denyhimself, and take up his cross, and follow me.35 For whosoever will save hislife shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and thegospel's, the same shall save it.36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shallgain the whole world, and lose his own soul?37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?38 Whosoevertherefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinfulgeneration; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in theglory of his Father with the holy angels.

    Col 3: 1 If ye then berisen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth onthe right hand of God.2 Set your affection on things above, not on things onthe earth.3 For ye are dead, and yourlife is hid with Christ in God.4 When Christ, who is our life, shallappear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth;fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, andcovetousness, which is idolatry:6 For which things' sake the wrath of Godcometh on the children of disobedience:7 In the which ye also walked some time,when ye lived in them.8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath,malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.9 Lie not one toanother, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which isrenewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

The spiritual   food in communion sustains us – through accepting His death, burial , and resurrection asour own (i.e., He did it on our behalf) , we CAN walk in newness of life. Wedrink His blood (LIFE ) and eat His body (Word in us)….We therefore can walk inSpirit and in truth.

Taking the communion food and drink is an admission that our livesare now IN HIM – His life in us gives us victory over the world, the flesh, andthe devil and give us the assurance of eternal life full of righteousness ,peace , and joy!
